BigRep with SolidXperts

BigRep with SolidXperts.

When the part is already being split into sections, and the splitting is costing you more than the machine would.

Large format is not a bigger version of the same problem. Below a certain size you print a part and use it. Above it, you split the model, print the sections, align them, bond them, fill the seams and then explain to somebody why the seams are there.

That work is invisible in a business case until you count it. A full size styling model, a layup tool, a fixture that spans an assembly, a foundry pattern: each one carries hours of assembly labour that disappear when the build envelope is big enough.

The catch is siting. A machine with a cubic metre of build volume needs floor space, power, ventilation and a plan for moving finished parts. That conversation happens before the quote, not after the delivery.

The flagship

BigRep ONE

A full cubic metre of build volume. BigRep calls it the original large format machine, and it is the one most people mean when they say BigRep. The video is BigRep's own, covering the current ONE.5X generation.

Video by BigRep 3D Printers

1005 x 1005 x 1005 mm

A full cubic metre, or 39.5 inches on every axis. The point at which you stop designing around the printer.

More than a decade in the field

BigRep describes the ONE as a trusted tool of designers, innovators and manufacturers for over ten years.

One piece, no seams

No splitting the model, no aligning sections, no bonding, and no explaining the joins to a client. BigRep positions it as large format at an accessible price.

BigRep VIIO 250

Built around automated production rather than around projects. This is the machine for a shop where large format stops being occasional and becomes a line item.

  • 1000 x 500 x 500 mm, around 250 litres
  • Aimed at tooling and print service work
  • Automation designed for jobs running back to back

BigRep ALTRA 280

The high performance end of the range. Engineering materials and tighter process control, for parts that have to hold up rather than just exist at scale.

  • 500 x 700 x 800 mm, around 280 litres
  • Built for demanding materials and functional parts
Choose this when the material matters as much as the size.

BigRep IPSO 105

The smallest of the four and the most cost-driven. High performance printing without buying build volume you will not fill.

  • 400 x 600 x 440 mm, around 105 litres
  • Maximum performance against price, in BigRep's own positioning

Software

BigRep BLADE

The slicing software for the whole range, and it is free. On large format that matters more than it sounds: a 40-hour print that fails at hour 30 is a slicing decision, not bad luck.

  • Preset profiles per printer and material combination
  • Over 400 configurable settings when the presets are not enough
  • Auto-orientation, batch printing, dual extrusion and Twin Mode
  • Reads STL, OBJ, X3D and 3MF
  • Compatible with every BigRep printer
Included with the machine, free to download and use. Video by BigRep 3D Printers.
Before you buy

Where is it going to live?

This is the question that derails large format purchases, and it is easier to answer before the machine ships than after it arrives on a pallet.

  • Floor space and access. The machine footprint is one thing, the door it has to come through is another.
  • Power and environment. Supply, ambient temperature and ventilation, all of which affect print quality on long jobs.
  • Print times measured in days. A cubic metre part is not an overnight job, so job planning and failure recovery matter more than on a desktop machine.
  • Material handling. Spool sizes, storage, drying, and how a finished part gets off the bed and out of the room.
  • Who runs it. Operator training and preventative maintenance, because a failed 40-hour print is an expensive way to learn.

Where it pays

Parts that were being split, glued and apologised for

Large format buyers are usually already making these parts. The machine changes how.

Full size design mock-ups

Styling and ergonomics models reviewed at real scale instead of at 40 percent.

Moulds and layup tools

Composite tooling made in days rather than machined out of block.

Large jigs and fixtures

Workholding that spans a whole assembly, printed as one rigid piece.

Foundry patterns

Patterns and core boxes without a pattern shop lead time.

Architectural and exhibition pieces

One-off geometry at a size that makes any other process expensive.

Print service bureaus

A capability few competitors have, which is the argument for the PRO and the VIIO 250.

Why buy it here

A big printer is a facility decision

Nobody buys a cubic metre of build volume on a whim. The work before the purchase order is what makes the machine pay off, and it is work we do before we quote.

  • Part assessment first. We look at the parts you are splitting today and tell you what large format actually saves, in hours and in dollars.
  • Siting and installation. Space, power, environment and access, agreed before the machine ships.
  • Operator training and maintenance. Basic operation, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance, because long prints punish neglected machines.
  • The CAD side too. We are an Authorized Dassault Systemes Reseller, so the model that feeds the printer is our territory as much as the printer is.
  • English and French, from six offices across the US and Canada: Miami, Richmond, Nashua, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City.
Questions

BigRep, answered

How big can BigRep printers actually print? +
The BigRep ONE has a build volume of 1005 x 1005 x 1005 mm, roughly 1000 litres. The VIIO 250 is 1000 x 500 x 500 mm, around 250 litres. The ALTRA 280 is 500 x 700 x 800 mm and the IPSO 105 is 400 x 600 x 440 mm. These are BigRep's published figures and should be confirmed against the current specification before purchase.
Which BigRep printer should I choose? +
The ONE is the full cubic metre machine, for prototyping, research and any part that has to come off the bed in one piece. The VIIO 250 is built around automated production, for tooling and print service work. The ALTRA 280 and the IPSO 105 are the high performance machines, where the material and the process control matter more than the raw envelope.
Is the software included? +
Yes. BigRep BLADE is the slicing software for the whole range and it is free to download and use. It carries preset profiles per printer and material combination, over 400 configurable settings, auto-orientation, batch printing and dual extrusion or Twin Mode support, and it reads STL, OBJ, X3D and 3MF.
Why print a large part in one piece? +
Because every join is a weak point and a labour cost. Splitting a mock-up, a jig or a mould into sections means printing them, aligning them, bonding them and then living with the seams. On a machine with a cubic metre of build volume the part comes off whole, which is usually the difference between a printed part and a printed part somebody trusts.
What do people use large format printing for? +
Full size design mock-ups and styling models, moulds and layup tools, jigs and fixtures that span a whole assembly, foundry patterns, and architectural and industrial pieces. In practice the buyers are teams that were already paying for these parts and were paying too much for them.
Where can I buy BigRep in the US and Canada? +
SolidXperts sells, installs and supports BigRep from six offices in the US and Canada: Miami, Richmond, Nashua, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City. Large format machines need a real siting conversation before purchase: floor space, power, ventilation and material handling. Call +1 866 688 2350 or request a quote from this page.
